Oleg Sentsov

Oleg Sentsov is a Ukrainian filmmaker, screenwriter, author, and former political prisoner. Born in 1976, he has lived and worked in Crimea. He gained recognition both in Ukraine and abroad after his first full-length film Gamer.

 

In 2014, after the annexation of Crimea, the FSB abducted him for his pro-Ukrainian position and volunteer activities. He was accused of terrorism and sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment on false changes. During his imprisonment, Oleg continued writing new screenplays and literary works which were continually published. He has won numerous prizes and awards, including the Sakharov, Magnitsky and Shevchenko Awards. Since his release as part of a prisoner exchange, Sentsov lives in Kyiv and is actively involved in human rights and artistic activities.
