Studies show that a part of the Ukrainian society justifies the use of torture under certain circumstances. Some of the people who justify it are police officers and prosecutors (one tenth of the surveyed police officers approve of torture).
The dominant opinion is that “beating out testimonies” is an effective method to get to the truth. Our experts will talk about whether this method actually works, whether it is actually possible to learn valuable information by torture, and whether it is possible to “crack up” a serial killer without threats and violence.
