Emma Davie

Emma Davie is a filmmaker and tutor. She has most recently co-directed a feature documentary, Becoming Animal, with Peter Mettler which was nominated for Best Feature at CPH Dox, Documenta Madrid and Docs Against Gravity. Her previous documentary, I Am Breathing (co-directed with Morag MacKinnon), won the Scottish BAFTA for Best Director and was shown in over 50 countries. Prior to this she directed many documentaries for BBC, Channel 4, etc., including the Grierson nominated What Age Can You Start Being an Artist?
 
Emma teaches a postgraduate course in documentary directing at Edinburgh College of Art. She advises on many films, both individually and at international workshops. She used to programme documentaries for the Edinburgh International Film Festival, and has served on many juries for festivals including IDFA and Visions du Reel, among others. Emma’s background is in performance theatre. She ran a performance company called Clanjamfrie, which specialised in immersive large-scale shows incorporating performance and film, often in unusual spaces.
