DOCU/PRO

What can I do to get my documentary shown around Europe? A masterclass with the distributor Jacques Pelissier

29 April 2024

This year’s DOCU/PRO is a series of masterclasses and meetings with film professionals that will be available to Industry Accreditation holders on 1–6 June. We are beginning to tell you about the intense programme of our industry platform.

On 1 June at 2:00 p.m., you will have a wonderful opportunity to attend an offline meeting with the French distributor Jacques Pelissier. He has released over twenty documentaries and, in particular, worked on the French distribution of The Earth is Blue Like an Orange, a Ukrainian film by Iryna Tsilyk. In the early 2000s, Jacques worked in Kyiv and is well acquainted with the Ukrainian film industry.

What is a distributor? An international sales agent? A festival promoter? How can we set up an alternative distribution system, such as an Impact Campaign? How to maximize your film's chances of being theatrically released in France and around Europe? You will find answers to these and other questions at the presentation by Jacques Pelissier. You will also have an opportunity to ask your own questions to thoroughly understand all the processes on the path to film distribution and the particularities of distribution in France.

Jacques Pelissier is a documentary enthusiast. In France, he has founded two distribution companies that work with documentaries: Aloest Distribution and Juste Doc. He has worked on the theatrical releases of 22 films with an audience of 220,000. In the past ten years, he has been distributing one to three documentaries per year. At the same time, he is the programme director of the International Educational Film Festival (Évreux, Normandy). He also consults documentary directors and producers regarding distribution.

The event will be open to everyone upon pre-registration (the working language of the event is Ukrainian). You will also be able to watch a livestream of the event online on the YouTube channel of the PITCH UA education platform and the Facebook page of Docudays UA.

Participation in the next DOCU/PRO events will require Industry Accreditation. Follow the upcoming announcements of DOCU/PRO events on our website.

The event will be held in collaboration between Docudays UA and the Transformation Communications Activity (TCA) project, funded by US Agency for International Development (USAID).
