Opportunity for Documentary Filmmakers: Individual Consultation for Your Film

This year, for holders of DOCU/PRO industry accreditation, we have prepared a unique opportunity to receive a personal consultation from leading experts in world documentary filmmaking: international project development specialist Mikael Opstrup and DAE director and tutor Brigid O’Shea

Mikael provides consultations at early stages of film development, and Brigid specializes in a wide range of topics, such as building a festival strategy, international co-productions, and preparing projects for pitching. The experts will come to Kyiv for the festival and can help with questions about your documentary films. You can sign up for a consultation after obtaining accreditation. Accredited participants will receive information on how to book a session a week before the festival. 

Mikael Opstrup — a specialist in international documentary project development, trailer consultancy, co-productions, workshop planning & tutoring. Author of THE UNCERTAINTY — book about developing Character driven Documentary. Head of Studies at European Documentary Network, EDN (2011-2019), creator and editor of EDNs Co-production Guide.


Worked as expert, tutor, moderator for IDFA (The Netherlands), Hot Docs (Canada), Nordisk Panorama (Nordic), Institute of Documentary Film (Czech Rep.), Baltic Sea Docs (Latvia), Docs Barcelona (Spain), In-Docs (Indonesia), Dox Box (Syria & Germany) a.o. Developed and headed a number of international workshops. Produced international documentaries for a couple of decades, latest as co-owner of Final Cut Productions in Copenhagen, Denmark (2002-2009).


Brigid O'Sheais a tutor and consultant who helps documentary projects and filmmakers reach their full global potential. Before this, Brigid was working for film festivals for more than 15 years including Berlin International Film Festival and also DOK Leipzig where she was head of the DOK Industry Programme. She has worked with ARTE on Generation Africa and Generation Ukraine, developing festival strategies for film collections, and sat on the boards of B2B Doc, Circle Women Doc Accelerator, and Dokufest in Prizren, Kosovo. Brigid co-founded and serves as co-director of The Documentary Association of Europe, a network and support system for documentarians. As an internationally known curator with a diversified network, she teaches festival strategy, international co-financing, pitching, and cultural management.
