The war has placed Ukraine’s healthcare system before an unprecedented challenge: how can a new generation be born safely when the very notion of “safety” is absent?
During the expert discussion, we will address:
the challenges currently faced by healthcare professionals and expectant mothers and fathers;
how to protect a mother’s mental health in the first months after childbirth;
how to turn the system of medical and psychological support into a reliable shield for a woman bringing new life into the world despite the war.
The discussion will bring together obstetrician-gynaecologists and perinatal psychologists to analyse the impact of the war on reproductive health and to discuss practical support pathways for expectant mothers.
Before the discussion, there will be the premiere of the short documentary film Witnesses. Place of Birth, directed by Maryna Kronhlevska and produced in collaboration with the War Archive team.
The film tells the story of the work of the Chernihiv Maternity Hospital in February–April 2022, when the city was encircled by Russian forces and lacked stable access to food, water and medicine.
