Biography

Volodymyr Bakum is a Ukrainian film director and screenwriter. He holds a Master’s degree from the Kyiv National I. K. Karpenko-Karyi University of Theatre, Cinema and Television. He is a winner of Ukrainian film festivals with his student films. During his studies, he created the trilogy Donbas, I Love You. His graduation film Mists received funding from the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in 2019, within the “From Idea to Screen” programme. The script for his next short film My Family and Other Animals was one of the winners of the Kira Muratova Screenplay Competition (2021). The project also won the pitching session at the Shift Film Festival 2022, organized by CineSud (Heerlen, Netherlands), and received a post-production grant from House of Europe (2022). Bakum’s work bridges fiction and documentary approaches, exploring the representation of social reality in Ukraine in relation to the contemporary world.
