Born and raised in Kyiv, Yarema Holota comes from a culturally diverse family whose activities spanned science, education, philosophy, music, design, and civic engagement. From an early age, he studied cello, participated in cultural and folk traditions, and performed with orchestras and choirs, touring across the Baltic states and Western Europe. As a teenager, he also sang in the choir of St. Volodymyr’s Cathedral in Kyiv.
He studied cinematography at the Kyiv National I. K. Karpenko-Kary Theatre, Cinema and Television University. During his studies, he completed documentary filmmaking practice with the BABYLON’13 collective and later expanded his focus to documentary directing through the workshop of Serhii Bukovskyi at the Ukrainian Tele-Radio Press Institute.
His debut short documentary was presented at the Wiz-Art Film Festival in Lviv. In 2024, he attended the Cannes Film Festival with a student accreditation, and in 2025 completed an editing internship with Petro Tsymbal on The Living Fire. He currently works on his own documentary film projects.
