Documentary collection “Young heroes” is a result of collaboration between Goethe-Institute in Munich and doxs! project within Duisburg cinema week. This year festival Docudays UA presented five films.
This selection may be designated as unique, because today documentaries about children, unfortunately, are rare enough. Adults usually talk about advantages of youth: you have, they say, entire world before you opened, life only began. But they often forget the problems disturbed them in youth.
Certainly, films for children should be somehow didactic. Feature films show life in a way it should be or it would be, and documentary – as it is. These histories not always have a happy end, however they are real. Viewers recognize themselves in heroes, they go together with them through joy and disappointment, put questions and look for answers. Children understand that their coevals all over the world experience the same events and emotions – and this unites them. Docudays UA offers Ukrainian children to become acquainted with their coevals from Poland, Netherlands and Denmark.
