Docudays UA to take place at "86" festival

22 April 2014

During the First Festival of Film and Urbanism “86” the presentation of The Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival and the screening of this year’s DOCU/LIFE participant American Commune will take place.

The presentation will be hosted by Iryna Tantsiura, the Docudays UA guest service coordinator. The screening will take place on April 24 at 9 pm (Big Hall of the Slavutych Film and Concert Center, 9 Central Square).

American Commune (Dir. Rena Mundo Croshere and Nadine Mundo, USA, 2012, 90'): In 1970, 1500 hippies and their guru Stephen Gaskin founded a commune in rural Tennessee. The members forked over their savings, grew their own food, delivered their babies at home and built a self-sufficient society. Raised in this alternative community by a Jewish mother from Beverly Hills and a Puerto Rican father from the Bronx, filmmakers and sisters Rena and Nadine return for the first time since leaving in 1985. Finally ready to face the past after years of hiding their upbringing, they chart the rise and fall of America’s largest utopian socialist experiment and their own family tree.

Moreover, the short film Subway by Roman Bondarchuk will be screened as a part of the City Name Game short films program at “86.” Subway was premiered at the Docudays UA 2014 opening screening entitled Euromaidan. The Rough Cut. The City Name Game program is scheduled on April 24 at 7 pm, right after the “86” opening ceremony (Big Hall of the Slavutych Film and Concert Center).

Subway (Ukraine, 2014, 8’): On December 9th 2013, the central stations of the Kyiv metro were closed because of the terrorist attack threat. People of Euromaidan figured out that riot police is planning an attack through the subway and started building barricades…

Festival of Film and Urbanism “86” deals with the nowadays problems of modern cities, alternative energy, and ecology. Its program consists of three parts: film, theatre, and discussion panels.

The Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival is an official partner of the Festival of Film and Urbanism “86.”
