Viesturs Kairišs. The Music As a Returning to the Great Myth in Documentary

Duration
120’

There is the myth of the eternal return. Movie making is part of this great movement because we are stealing pieces of time. Music is capable of elevating a documentary to a level of Myth – the Myth of eternal return.

The lecture will consist of an explanation of Viesturs Kairišs’s approach to documentary-making which is based in his experience as an opera director.

“Mostly, I will explain the general approach of using music, which is not music as illustration, but as a tool for the Story Arc, to create a Myth. I also show examples from my own documentaries in order to visualize this theory. We will discuss the importance of the language of cinema, especially in documentary film, the importance of achieving aesthetic value in film. Generally, we will discuss the importance of working in the field of creative documentary film, wherein the way of making a movie is as important as its content.” (Viesturs Kairišs)

Viesturs Kairišs’s film The Invisible City will be screened on the 29th of March, 8 p.m., in Cinema House, Blue Hall.
