Meet the Ukrainian Doc Preview tutors!

27 January 2021

This year, the guest tutors of Ukrainian Doc Preview will be Brigid O’Shea, the founder of the Documentary Association of Europe (DAE), and Selin Murat, the industry programmer at the RIDM festival (Montreal).

On March 15–17, the participants of Ukrainian Doc Preview will take a special workshop where Selin Murat ad Brigid O’Shea will share their experience and teach them how to successfully present a project to the international film industry.

The participants of Ukrainian Doc Preview together with the tutors will look for new points of contact for further development of documentary filmmaking during the COVID-19 crisis. “For now we are all trying to work out which methods of interaction are effective and which need to change. It's a work-in-progress, and only through the participation of everyone, their honest and constructive feedback, will the film industry come to new models,” says Brigid O’Shea, who has worked with the Docudays UA Industry Platform for five years. “Ukrainian documentary has been growing in its profile and self-confidence over the last years and it has been really exciting to contribute in small ways to helping projects find their place in the international market.”

“I see the focus these days is to create and sustain genuine human connections through screens, presenting talented teams to potential collaborators and encouraging face-to-face networking,” notes Selin Murat. “I see our entire ecosystem resisting against isolation and inertia. We truly are a resilient community and this pandemic has really shown our real human connection.”

Every Ukrainian Doc Preview project will have a chance to receive individual consultations depending on the needs and questions its team is interested in. The Ukrainian Doc Preview workshop will take place in a hybrid format and will result in an online presentation of projects on 29 March. The names of the international experts who will participate in the Ukrainian Doc Preview showcase will be announced soon.

You can apply for participation in Ukrainian Doc Preview until 22 February by filling out a form here.
