Support the 19th Docudays UA at the Kyiv Public Budget competition

25 August 2021

Vote for Docudays UA in the competition of projects of the Kyiv Public Budget 2022 until 15 September! At the 19th Docudays UA, our team aims to support the capital's communal cinemas located not only in the city center but also in residential districts, with free screenings of documentary film hits. Five municipal cinemas of the city, including "Florentsiya", "Lira", Taras Shevchenko cinema and others will become venues for the screenings.

"The number of municipal cinemas in Kyiv has been rapidly declining in recent years, and the city is losing its cultural infrastructure. Fortunately, some municipal cinemas in residential districts of the capital are still open. Nevertheless, they remain on the margins of the bright cultural events in the city and often do not have enough resources to compete with network cinemas in the malls, said Julia Kartashova, Director of Fundraising Department at Docudays UA. "With this project, we want to join the development of municipal cinemas and draw attention to the importance of holding cultural events "in the hood."

Film screenings will be accessible to people with visual and hearing impairments with the help of audio descriptions and adapted subtitles. This will make activities more inclusive.

We are convinced that municipal cinemas have cultural, architectural, and historical value and can be not only centers of commercial cinema but also educational and artistic platforms. At the 19th Docudays UA, we invite you to rediscover these familiar buildings in your neighborhood and start the difficult process of transforming cinemas in residential districts into cultural centers of the community.
