Statement of the Docudays UA regarding the arrest of Tetiana Hatsura-Yavorska in Belarus

13 April 2021

The Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival is calling to release Tetiana Hatsura-Yavorska, the festival’s friend and associate, the head of WATCH DOCS Belarus and the director of the Link Civil Association.

On 6 April, Tetiana Hatsura-Yavorska and the Link activists Yulia Semenchenko and Natalia Trenina were arrested as suspects in a criminal case.

The Docudays UA team is calling on the Belarusian government to stop the persecution of activists and culture figures and to release our colleague. We condemn the systemic violations of human rights and freedoms by the Belarusian government. Our team is convinced that the fabricated cases and the groundless arrests do not just make it impossible for critical institutions to operate in Belarus. They also stand in the way of serving justice to those whose crimes have become as apparent as ever in the past year, but despite this, still remain unpunished.
