Meet the jury of DOCU/UKRAINE and DOCU/SHORT of the 21st Docudays UA

We are pleased to announce the experts who will select the winners of the two competition programmes.

The jury members for the national feature films and the international short documentary competition are Isabelle Arrate Fernandez, head of the IDFA Bertha Fund; Kyrylo Marikutsa, co-founder and director of the Kyiv International Short Film Festival (KISFF); Paula Astorga Riestra, artistic director of the Doclisboa Film Festival.

Isabel Arrate Fernandez finished her MA in film studies at the University of Amsterdam in 1996. She worked in festival production, programming, and film financing before joining IDFA to head the IDFA Bertha Fund. Since 2020, Isabel Arrate Fernandez has been a deputy director of IDFA and in charge of the Filmmaker Support department. She oversees the IDFA Bertha Fund (IBF) and the Talent Development programmes. 

Kyrylo Marikutsa is a co-founder and director of the Kyiv International Short Film Festival (KISFF), the largest international short film festival in Ukraine since 2012. KISFF presents a broad panorama of short films. Since 2015, Kyrylo has also been working on a project, KyivMusicFilm, an independent distribution company that focuses on the theatrical distribution of documentaries and arthouse films. KyivMusicFilm also organises a documentary film festival, INTRO, that covers music and culture-related films. Since 2021, Kyrylo has been developing TYTR, a Ukrainian-curated film streaming platform for documentary and arthouse films.

Paula Astorga Riestra is an artistic director of the Doclisboa Film Festival. Since August 2022, Astorga has been head of studies at the Producer's Lab Open Doors, Locarno Film Festival. She is a consultant and international advisor for audiovisual projects, especially in development and exhibition. In 2012, she was named and decorated a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government for her work in audiovisual culture.
