Yaroslav Pidhora-Hviazdovskyi

Yaroslav Pidhora-Hviazdovskyi is a Ukrainian journalist, film critic, and screenwriter. He has been published in over 60 magazines, newspapers, and online platforms and has more than 3,000 articles to his name. He also served as press attaché at the Ukrainian State Film Agency, head of the cinema section at SHO magazine, as well as editor-in-chief of Kino Digest and the Ukrainian edition of the international magazine Total Film.

In 2015, Yaroslav founded the festival “Resurrection Week of the Executed Renaissance.” In 2018, he co-founded the Ukrainian Film Critics Union and the Ukrainian Film Critics Week festival, later contributing to creating the union’s Kinokolo award. In 2021, he co-organized the Korosten Street Film Festival, with support from the State Film Agency. He co-wrote the military action film Right to Revenge (in collaboration with Yuliya Cherniavska) and wrote the script for the erotic crime thriller The Keys to Hell and Heaven, which received a grant from the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation.

Yaroslav is a member of the Ukrainian Film Critics Union, the Ukrainian Film Academy, and the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine. He currently serves as a captain in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Union of the Ukrainian Film Critics is a Ukrainian non-profit created in 2018 to associate Ukrainian film critics and encourage & develop cinema culture in Ukraine. The UUFC jury works at many Ukrainian film festivals and gives special filmmaking achievement awards.
