The filmmaker, a woman photographer, engages with the photo archive of her father. He was a photographer, too, during his years of militant activism against the dictatorship in Chile and his exile throughout Latin America. While exploring these images, the filmmaker returns to the archive time and again, creating a game in an attempt to connect with her father. Various fictions emerge that weave themselves delicately into the narrative, creating the possibility to reflect on the resistance, the consequences of the horror, and the possibilities that images contain for conceiving other futures.
Una Sombra Oscilante (An Oscillating Shadow) explores images’ intimate and political weight, provoking reflections on what continues to burn in them and what they can offer us while facing the devastation and uncertainty of our times.Celeste Rojas Mugica is a Chilean-Argentinian visual artist, photographer, and filmmaker with a Master Degree in Film Creation from the Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola.
