Yulia Kovalenko, the Programme Director of Docudays UA and editor of the printed 5th edition, comments on the initiative:
“Today, we are all living in a situation where we have to carefully preserve and cherish, among other things, our history and heritage. The present of Ukrainian documentary filmmaking is rooted in the history of its rapid rise: the collection of Ukrainian non-fiction cinema is being built by us year after year, it has continuity and development trajectories. To make sure that this process never loses its outlines and is protected from oblivion, dispersion or distortion, we have decided to give a second life to the past Catalogues of Ukrainian Documentary Films which are more than five years old. We began digitization with the last 5th edition of the Catalogue that was published in the classic printed format. Now you can flip through it not only as a .pdf, but also in an open electronic format. Some of the projects in it have already been implemented, some others were later transformed; there will also be projects that are still on their path to the big screen. All of them are an integral part of the living organism of Ukrainian documentary filmmaking.”
The fifth edition of the Catalogue of Ukrainian Documentary FIlms is being digitised with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation. The Catalogue does not necessarily reflect the position of the International Renaissance Foundation.
