After the festival in Kyiv, we continue online screenings of documentary films about human rights, as well as conversations about democracy and our role in creating social change. Alongside the films, DOCUSPACE will host themed human rights discussions as part of the RIGHTS NOW! program.

Your Life Without Me, dir. Anna Rubi, Hungary, 2024, 73'
According to the synopsis, the film’s main character Magdi — a strong-willed but lonely caregiver — must confront a terrifying reality as she grows older: if she dies, her adult son with a disability, Feri, will be left in the inhumane conditions of Hungary’s state care system and will likely soon follow her in death. Determined to secure a future for Feri, Magdi joins forces with a group of mothers in similar situations, and together they file a lawsuit against the state. Your Life Without Me is a story of strength and sacrifice, as women find their voice through collective struggle and solidarity.

For nearly twenty years, Mélanie has taken in unaccompanied minors at her law office and tried to help them navigate the jungle of the French justice system. Through her profession, she seeks to right the injustices faced by these young migrants, who have already endured the trauma of prolonged exile. When justice no longer fulfills its role, she takes them under her wing as a committed citizen and continues the fight.

National Exams, dir. Giorgi Mrevlishvili, Sakartvelo, 2024, 74'
Nana Mgaloblishvili is a Kartvelian language teacher at a local school in western Sakartvelo. On April 9, 1989, during the violent suppression of a peaceful pro-independence demonstration by the Soviet Russian army, she narrowly escaped death but was severely poisoned. In Nana’s lessons, the past merges with the present, literature and history intersect with current realities. In her classroom, knowledge becomes both a lesson and a prophecy, guiding students as they prepare for national exams.
