Navigating the International Market: Marché du Film

Duration
90’

The Marché du Film (Cannes Film Market) is the world’s leading film market and is often called the heart of the film industry. Each year, it brings together more than 15,000 participants from 140 countries for business, networking, and discussions on financing and distribution trends.

The Marché du Film represents the full industry spectrum: buyers, sales agents, producers, distributors, festival programmers, and film institutions. With 600 exhibitors across Cannes, 1,500 screenings, 250 industry events, and more than twenty tailored industry programs, it’s the ideal place to connect, do business, and explore the latest innovations shaping the industry.

The market also offers a tailored programme dedicated to documentaries — Cannes Docs.

Alexandra Zakharchenko, Head of Programmes & Training and Program Director of the Investors Circle at the Marché du Film, will explain the market and outline the opportunities available to Ukrainian documentary filmmakers at the world’s largest international gathering of film professionals.

Speakers:
Alexandra Zakharchenko, originally from Kyiv, Ukraine, holds two Master’s degrees in International Economics and Cultural Project Management. She relocated to France in 2012, where she embarked on her professional journey in the film & events sector, starting as a programmer at the Nancy International Short Film Festival. She later coordinated the European Short Pitch project for three consecutive years before transitioning to the commercial department of the Institut Lumière and Lumière Film Festival.

In 2017, Alexandra brought her wealth of expertise to the forefront of the Marché du Film – Festival de Cannes team, where she now serves as Head of Industry Programmes and formerly as Project Manager for the Marché’s Latin American film market, Ventana Sur.

In these roles, she spearheads industry events for both film markets, with a focus on fostering connections and advancing the global film community. Notably, she played a key role in launching the Investors Circle program, further solidifying her commitment to innovation and progress in film financing models.
