After being wounded at the front and recovering in hospitals, a Ukrainian war veteran returns to his family. He tries to make up for three years of absence from home and tries to return to teaching physical education at school. But rehabilitation requires more than he expected.
Serhii, a middle-aged Ukrainian soldier, the call sign "DJ", suffers a severe injury in the combat zone—his leg is badly wounded and may require amputation. A military doctor saves his life, providing immediate first aid on the spot. One year later, Serhii is at a rehabilitation center in Western Ukraine, adjusting to life with a prosthetic leg. He attends a local gym under medical supervision, undergoes physiotherapeutic massage sessions, and participates in swimming—a key part of veterans’ recovery. But the space of water, meant to heal, also triggers flashbacks and PTSD, as the shadows of war linger beneath the surface.
After his final day in the rehab center, Serhii returns home to the small city of Uman. His family—his wife and three children—welcomes him with joy, reunited after the long separation. At home, Serhii tries to make up for the three years he lost on the frontline and in hospitals. He takes his children to the swimming pool, which becomes a space of connection for them. They also visit the school sports hall to play basketball together, a place where Serhii used to work as a physical education teacher before the war. Now, returning, he notices how much of the place has changed.
