Biography
Estonian director, screenwriter, and media expert. He graduated from the University of Tartu with a degree in Art History, earned a master's degree in screenwriting from Ohio University (USA), studied film studies in Paris (Saint Denis, La Sorbonne Nouvelle), and completed an internship at Columbia Pictures in Los Angeles. From 2002 to 2005, he headed Estonian Television.

Among his most renowned films are August 1991, The Class, Kertu, and An Estonian in Paris. The Class (2007) received over 20 international awards and was submitted for an Academy Award nomination. Since 2014, he has been actively supporting Ukraine as a volunteer, and after Russia's invasion in 2022, he joined the board of the organization Glory to Ukraine. He is recognized as one of Estonia’s leading public intellectuals.
