Medevac, EcoFlow and car repair: the results of the Docudays UA & Hurkit fundraiser

17 September 2024

We are grateful for your donations and reposts during the Docudays UA festival in June, and we are ready to share a detailed report. Our team announced an ambitious fundraising campaign and together with you, the audience, we managed to raise an amount of UAH 349,119.58, which was used by the Hurkit Charity Fund to purchase the necessary materials for the Ukrainian army.

As part of the joint initiative of the Hurkit Charity Fund and the Docudays NGO, we have announced a fundraising drive for:

1) a medical evacuation vehicle (medevac) for the 109th Territorial Defence Brigade;

2) means of communication and other support for the brigades where the festival staff are currently serving.

We watched a film and told you about the fundraiser, sold flowers for donations, and invited the festival's host, journalist Maksym Shcherbyna, to participate. On his Instagram page, he opened an auxiliary jar and raffled off gifts among the donors:

“I took a book and a bottle of whiskey, asked a designer I know to take a picture, posted it on social media, raised 140,000+ hryvnias, and raffled off the gifts. The book (ed.: Troubadours of Empire by Ewa Thompson) is important and relevant, the bottle of whiskey is a bit special, released in support of Ukraine, but not super exclusive.

I've been on the internet for a long time and I see that reposts bring in just a couple of thousand hryvnias, so people need to be encouraged. And I wanted to support the festival in some tangible way.”

The fundraiser lasted from 31 May to 1 August.

We managed to raise a total of UAH 349,119.58 for the above-mentioned needs, including:

UAH 215 542.60 from the visitors of the Docudays UA festival and other concerned citizens (collected at Monobank);

UAH 18,576.98 from the British audience as part of the charity screening of the documentary Witnesses in London by Ukraine War Archive;

UAH 115,000 directly from the European Commission for the purchase of an evacuation vehicle.

Thanks to the amount raised, Hurkit Charity Fund was able to:

— purchase and deliver an EcoFlow DELTA Max 2000 charging station for the 210th separate special battalion (BERLINGO) of the 1004th separate security and maintenance brigade of the Ukrainian Ground Forces (UAH 41,947);

repair a vehicle for the 67th separate mechanised brigade (UAH 85,360);

— purchase and transfer of a medical evacuation vehicle (Mitsubishi L200 pickup truck) for the 109th Territorial Defence Brigade (UAH 221 812.58).*

*The total cost of the vehicle is UAH 265,000, so the Hurkit Charity Fund contributed a small amount from other fundraisers too.

We express our sincere gratitude to each and every one of you who contributed to our fundraising! These two videos are our warmest messages for you: from the crew of the 109th Territorial Defence Brigade; and from a soldier of the 67th Separate Mechanised Brigade, our colleague from the Docudays UA team, the web developer Sashko Sereda. Your donations and support helped our defenders in their hard daily work.
