Painting Absence is the project on the absence of an archive raises questions about memory, time and ways of preserving collective experience. In the context of the active flourishing of archiving in Ukraine, the author wants to talk about the absence of an “archival impulse”, or a certain impossibility of preservation.

Karina is a visual artist from Siverskodonetsk, Luhansk region, currently living in Kyiv. She works with painting, collage, and animation. In her works, Karina refers to architectural structures and landscapes, focusing on the emptiness and decay of these spaces. At the same time, architectural elements in her works appear as scenery for the urban environment and nature. The central topics and images in her works are the manifestation of human feelings, emotional states, gender aspects and relationships during the war.
