Physical and psychological traumas, difficulties in returning to normal life, and the lack of systematic state support — all these become new challenges for those who have already endured Russian prisons, basements, and often torture.
What awaits a person after release from captivity, and what do they need — physically, emotionally, legally? How should the state act? What role can society, communities, and volunteers play?
We invite you to an open discussion dedicated to the issues of rehabilitation, reintegration, and comprehensive support for Ukrainian citizens returning from Russian captivity. This event is about people — those who endured captivity and must now endure the aftermath.
Speakers:
Maksym Butkevych, Ukrainian human rights defender, journalist, civil society activist, released from Russian captivity;
Maksym Kolesnikov, a former prisoner of war who has gone through the path of return;
Nataliia Yashchuk, Senior Manager of the War Consequences Mitigation Program at the Center for Civil Liberties.
Moderator: Anastasiia Holovnenko, Advocacy Campaign Coordinator at the Center for Civil Liberties.
