In this video, the director is making a jelly dessert called “broken glass,” a treat her three-year-old daughter loves, while recalling a small episode that happened to her during childbirth. A simple and appropriate action by a midwife — one that is usually not included in medical protocols — became for her an unexpected artistic and emancipatory experience.
At the same time, the work documents an animation experiment in the tradition of zoetrope cakes: an attempt to rediscover professional interest after a long pause and to integrate creative exploration into everyday domestic routines. In seeking a way to regain ease in her creative process, she paradoxically finds a loophole of productive effort within cooking and motherhood.
