When solidarity becomes action: Results of the charity fundraising campaign of the Travelling Docudays UA and the Principle of Hope Charitable Foundation

26 January 2026

During the 22nd Travelling Docudays UA, together with the Principle of Hope Charitable Foundation, founded by human rights defender, veteran with experience of captivity, and festival ambassador Maksym Butkevych, we held a fundraising campaign for the rehabilitation of Ukrainians released from Russian captivity for the first time. Following up on the outcomes of the Travelling Docudays UA, we are sharing the results of the initiative by publishing a detailed report from the foundation.

The charity fundraising campaign ran throughout the entire festival, from 1 October to 30 November 2025. Together with you, our viewers, the team, volunteers, and everyone who cared, we managed to raise 59,613 hryvnias*.

With the funds raised, the Principle of Hope strengthened one of the centres specialising in the treatment and rehabilitation of Ukraine’s defenders, as well as the reintegration of those released from captivity; for security reasons, we do not publicly disclose its name or location. In particular, we contributed to setting up a cinema hall where screenings of feature and documentary films (yes, we hope that in 2026 the centre will become another location of the Travelling Docudays UA) and educational videos will take place, as well as other activities: mental health support and recovery events, group and individual sessions, official meetings, and more. The premises are already undergoing renovation.

The needs of the facility that the foundation was able to cover promptly:

  1. Materials for a suspended ceiling, 80 sq m — 1 set (10,800 UAH);

  2. Acoustic wall panel, size 2,780×300 — 18 units (25,200 UAH);

  3. Metal-plastic door with double-sided lamination, size 490×2,430 — 1 unit (15,900 UAH);

  4. Metal-plastic door with single-sided lamination, size 990×2,080 — 1 unit (5,900 UAH).

We sincerely thank everyone who joined the charity fundraising campaign for their conscious civic stance and support! Every one of your donations is a real contribution to bringing our people home and creating dignified conditions for their recovery.

The report was provided by the Principle of Hope Charitable Foundation.

*Some transfers were received in foreign currency; the calculation was carried out according to the exchange rate of 50.23 UAH/EUR.

The Principle of Hope Charitable Foundation is a human rights organisation founded during Russia's full-scale aggression against Ukraine. It focuses, in particular, on assisting prisoners of war and unlawfully detained civilians released from captivity, military personnel, veterans, IDPs, people living in temporarily occupied territories, and others affected by the war. The foundation also seeks to ensure fundamental rights and freedoms for every person regardless of origin, citizenship, migration status, religion, ethnic or gender identity, sexual orientation, or belonging to other groups discriminated against in contemporary society.
