What is the role of a publicist? When do you start your campaign, and which tools are essential for you to have? How do we ensure that the stories and messages we want to come across when releasing our films are the ones the media will actually focus on? How do we make sure our films are making headlines in the media?
In this masterclass, Line Bilenberg will discuss strategies and ways to build a campaign to get your film noticed. However, there is also the difference between working with a publicist and trying to make it on your own when attending international festivals.
Line Bilenberg believes that “a lot of times the work of a publicist is not only being the ‘warrior’ at the frontline fighting for the film, but it is also the ability to be a mental capacity carrier for the director and the producer. That, to me, is the secret behind a successful campaign”.
Line Bilenberg has worked as a journalist doing television, radio, news, and magazines for many years. But, for the past 13 years, she has worked as an independent publicist and PR consultant primarily for the film industry. Line Bilenberg does strategies, PR and press work, political lobbying, outreach, press tours, media training, etc.
Her company is called Bilenberg PR. One of her specialties is the launch of documentary films. She has run campaigns that have more than once led to legislative changes and massive public debate. She works with many opinion-makers, politicians, NGO’s, and, of course, the media. For Line, the film's protagonists must be well taken care of when dealing with the press. The same goes for the directors, who must be prepared when meeting the press.
