Open call for UKRAINIAN SHOWCASE @ Cannes Docs

12 May 2020

Docudays UA, in cooperation with the Ukrainian Institute, invites Ukrainian documentary projects to participate in UKRAINIAN SHOWCASE @ Cannes Docs, which will be held online on 22-26 June at Marché du Film as part of the Cannes Docs section.

This year, for the first time, with support from the Ukrainian Institute and Docudays UA, Ukrainian producers and directors will present their projects to representatives of the most influential international festivals and sales agencies at the main global film market—in Cannes. This is an opportunity for the authors of future films to find reliable partners for distribution and to arrange a global premiere of their upcoming film. In addition to the presentation, the participating projects will receive individual consultations by leading international experts.

“The Ukrainian Institute seeks a systematic approach to promoting Ukrainian film. That is why this year, we are organizing not one but two showcases at the famous Marché du Film market. One of them is aimed at integrating Ukrainian producers into the international professional community of the Producers Network, and the other at supporting documentary filmmaking in the Cannes Docs section. Notably, we have already tested the online pitching format during the Ukrainian Doc Preview showcase at this year’s Docudays UA, and now we are absolutely confident of its effectiveness,” says Olha Birzul, the head of the Film Division of the Ukrainian Institute, about the UKRAINIAN SHOWCASE @ Cannes Docs initiative.

By participating in Cannes Docs, filmmakers will give their project some key exposure at the international level,” says Pierre-Alexis Chevit, the Head of Cannes Docs. “In addition, there are several prizes to be won. By the way, last year's recipient of the main €10,000 cash award ended up selected at Visions du Réel 2020.  The obvious upside of this year's virtual edition of Cannes Docs is that a number of professionals who wouldn't have normally traveled to Cannes will be eager to participate in the film market online!”

Feature-length documentary projects in the genre of creative and auteur documentary for festival and cinema distribution may apply. These projects must be at the post-production stage, prepared to present at least 10 minutes of the future film’s rough cut.

4 projects will be selected to participate in UKRAINIAN SHOWCASE @ Cannes Docs.

Application deadline: 23 May 2020.
