Hate speech in the information space of Crimea: its scale and consequences

Duration
90’

Organisers: the Journalistic Ethics Commission, the Human Rights Information Centre and the Crimean Human Rights Protection Group

How did language become weaponised in Russia’s war against Ukraine? Which groups became the targets of incitement of hostility in the Crimean media and the websites of the occupation government? How was the spiral of hate stirred on Russian TV channels which broadcast to Crimea? What can be done to hold the people responsible for these actions to account? These questions will be discussed at the event.

Participants:

Tetiana Pechonchyk, Chairwoman of the Board of the Human Rights Information Centre

Iryna Sedova, researcher for the Crimean Human Rights Protection Group

Oleksandr Burmagin, media lawyer for the Platform for Human Rights, member of the Independent Media Council

Yuriy Bidzilia, PhD in social communication, head of the Journalism Department of the Uzhhorod National University, member of the Journalistic Ethics Commission
