Ukraine War Archive Viewing Room

26 May 2025

For the third year in a row, the Ukraine War Archive is opening up its platform to the public. During the festival, project analysts will demonstrate how the repository of partner materials and the research tool – developed by the UWA team – function in practice.

Among the partner materials, visitors will be able to view footage, explore in-depth interviews, photographs and transcripts. This year, the UWA will also present Lenses – a tool designed for working with open-source materials. Lenses aggregates data daily from over 3,500 Telegram channels, enabling users to search through transcripts of Telegram posts. The channels are thematically categorised as Russian, pro-Russian, Ukrainian, pro-Ukrainian, so-called L/DPR, foreign, regional Ukrainian, and personal pages of bloggers or war correspondents. Lenses also includes a small segment of Russian state propaganda for analysis.

The tool stores not only audiovisual or textual content – it also provides direct links to the original sources, such as the original post or channel. Content collection is configured in line with the Berkeley protocol, and, when needed, allows for the identification of metadata for each saved channel, post, or embedded content.

The coordinator of the Ukraine War Archive Viewing Room is analyst Anton Tribe.
