This is a legendary film by Audrius Stonys and Arūnas Matelis, which won fourth place in the Top 10 at the international exhibition EXPO 2000 in Hanover, Germany as one of the best films shown at the exhibition. The film features an incredibly low ‘angel’s’ flight over the dunes of Nida, Trakai castle, the lakes of Aukštaitija (Highlands), the roofs of the Old Town of Vilnius and the fantastically beautiful church steeples. It’s like a mystical glide just above the treetops, the meadows covered by early morning mist, as well as the narrow streets of Vilnius. The film combines a real sense of flying, modern technologies and classic poetic documentary.
Аrūnas Matelis was born in 1961 in Kaunas, Lithuania. After directing 10 creative documentary shorts, Arūnas Matelis’s first mid-length documentary Before Flying Back to the Earth received more than 10 awards, including a Directors’ Guild of America (DGA) Award, awards at IDFA Amsterdam, DOK Leipzig, and a nomination for the European Film Award.
Audrius Stonys is a film director and producer, and a member of the European Documentary Network and the European Film Academy. He represents Lithuania on the board of the European Cinema support fund Eurimages. He has made 20 films as an independent filmmaker and producer, and won numerous international film awards, including the public prize in Nyon, the Grand Prix in Split, and prizes in Bornholm, Neubrandenburg, Bilbao, Florence, Oberhausen and San Francisco.
